The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans and found that there are many benefits to regular moderate physical activities such as brisk walking. So physicians are using these guidelines to help their patients get healthy by prescribing exercise in addition to, or in place of medication.
Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood is one example of a community whose physicians who have embraced physical activity as a means to cure/prevent illness by prescribing exercise to patients.
